Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, has called on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed in Lagos State to make a meaningful impact on the growth of Lagos and Nigeria.
During an interactive session held yesterday with the Y2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, Mrs. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of the NYSC scheme in fostering youth engagement and maintaining the vision of its founding fathers for a united Nigeria, despite cultural, linguistic, and religious differences.
She praised the corps members for their resilience and patriotic spirit, acknowledging their dedication to enduring the rigors of the orientation camp and adhering to its rules and regulations.
“Your choice to serve Nigeria through this programme demonstrates your commitment to making a positive impact in society,” she remarked.
Mrs. Sanwo-Olu also took the opportunity to inform the corps members about various programs and interventions her office is undertaking to enhance the quality of life in Lagos State. She emphasized her current initiative, ‘War against Drug Abuse in Lagos State,’ pointing out the alarming rate of drug abuse and the necessity for public support to spread awareness and expand the campaign’s reach.
Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, described the governor’s wife’s visit as a source of motivation and inspiration for the corps members. She expressed gratitude to the state government for prioritizing issues related to the NYSC scheme, reaffirming the program’s significant contribution to national development.
