A security outfit in Anambra State has reportedly declared its intention to arrest women found in public without bras or underwear, sparking widespread outrage and debate.
A viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) captured an official of the security group announcing a public address system.
Speaking in Igbo, he claimed the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo issued the directive, though no official government statement has confirmed this.
The official also stated that women seen wearing only panties in public would face arrest, though the specifics of enforcement remain unclear.
The controversial declaration has drawn reactions from various quarters, including former Kaduna Senator Shehu Sani, who took to X on Monday to question its validity and implementation.
“Anambra’s bra and pant law. I don’t know if the pant law applies to men… and how can the security outfit verify ladies’ compliance?” Sani wrote.
As of now, the Anambra State Government has not released an official statement clarifying its position on the matter. However, legal and human rights experts have raised concerns about the potential violation of privacy and fundamental rights if such a directive were to be enforced.
The development has fueled debates on social media, with many questioning the legality, morality, and practicality of such a policy.
