A customary court in Rumuogba, Rivers State, has ruled that Mrs. Kate Ngbor must stop using her former husband’s name.
Chief Sam Ngbor, the claimant, filed suit OCC/9/2021, seeking a court order to prevent his ex-wife from bearing his surname.
Following legal submissions from both parties’ counsels, the court ruled that she has no right to the name without his express permission.
The judgment mandates her to revert to her maiden name or any other name, excluding “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor.”
She is also prohibited from using or presenting herself under the name in any form moving forward.
