The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has attributed the delay in implementing the increased allowance for corps members to funding challenges.
Despite the Federal Government’s approval of an increase from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 in July 2024, payments have yet to commence.
Carol Embu, NYSC’s Acting Director of Information, confirmed that efforts to secure cash backing for the allowance increase are ongoing.
She explained that Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, the new NYSC Director-General, is still familiarising himself with the matter.
Corps members remain frustrated as they struggle financially, given the rising cost of living and delays in the promised adjustment.
NYSC assured that updates would be shared once clarity is achieved, but no specific timeline for payment commencement was provided.
Stakeholders are urging urgent action to resolve funding issues and ensure corps members receive the approved allowance increase without further delay.
