ANFS Hosts ‘Treasure Project’ to Mark International Women’s Day

The Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS) on Tuesday hosted “The Treasure Project” in Abuja as part of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day, bringing together women leaders and student advocates to promote female leadership and empowerment.

The event, held on March 10, 2026, was organised under the office of the Director of Programs of the association and hosted by Hikmat Haruna alongside Emmanuela Williams, coordinator of ANFS. It featured speakers from politics, media, sports, technology and advocacy sectors who engaged students on leadership, mentorship and opportunities for women.

In her keynote address, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat emphasised the need for stronger policies and structural opportunities that support women’s advancement and leadership in society.

Also speaking at the event, Aisha Shuaibu El-Rufai, founder of SWA Sports, encouraged young women to break barriers and explore opportunities in sports as a tool for community development and leadership.

The programme also featured representatives of student and civil society organisations, including the Association for Students Social Welfare (ASSW). Its founder, Victor Adetolaju, attended alongside Ego Philips of I-Dreams and the Public Relations Officer of the NANS FCT chapter.

Other sessions focused on mentorship, gender advocacy and health awareness. Representatives of Just Us Girls NGO spoke on feminism and mentorship, while Andikan Umoh, representing media personality Osasu Igbinedion, highlighted the role of storytelling and media representation in advancing gender equality.

Hon. Kaffo Olaitan, a tech lawyer representing the He Rise Initiative, discussed the role of men as allies in the campaign for gender equality, while the Mablevi Lupus Foundation delivered a health session focusing on lupus awareness and women’s well-being.

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the second edition of the National Treasure Magazine, a publication aimed at documenting the achievements and contributions of women and young people across various sectors.

Speaking during the programme, Haruna said the initiative was designed to inspire young women to recognise their value and potential to drive change in society.

She said the project seeks to create a platform where women and girls are empowered not only to participate in national development but also to lead.

Participants at the event engaged in mentorship sessions and discussions aimed at equipping young women with leadership skills and confidence to pursue opportunities across different fields.
