Rising Insecurity: NYCN Urges Tinubu to Take Decisive Action as Kidnappings, Terror Attacks Worsen

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent and decisive measures to address the worsening security situation across the country, warning that Nigerians can no longer tolerate excuses while lives and property remain under constant threat.

The call was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the National Public Relations Officer of the Council, Amb. Benjamin Adekunle Onileowo, on behalf of the National Leadership of the NYCN led by its National President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo.

According to the Council, persistent incidents of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes continue to threaten national security, economic growth, and social stability.

The youth body expressed concern that despite repeated assurances from government authorities, many Nigerians still live in fear due to recurring attacks on communities, highways, schools, and farmlands across the country.

Speaking on the situation, Onileowo acknowledged the efforts of security agencies but maintained that the scale of the security challenges requires stronger, more coordinated, and result-driven responses.

“The National Youth Council of Nigeria is deeply concerned about the alarming rate of insecurity in our nation. Every day, innocent citizens are killed, abducted, displaced, or deprived of their means of livelihood. Nigerians deserve more than promises; they deserve safety, security, and peace of mind,” he stated.

The Council urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve inter-agency collaboration, deploy modern security technologies, and ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.

According to the NYCN, security remains the foundation of national development, warning that continued insecurity could further discourage investment, increase unemployment, and slow economic progress.

The Council also noted that young Nigerians remain among the most affected victims of the country’s security challenges and therefore expect immediate and practical interventions from government at all levels.

“The time has come for decisive leadership and concrete action. Nigerians can no longer tolerate excuses while innocent citizens continue to suffer the devastating consequences of insecurity. What the people seek are practical solutions and measurable results capable of restoring confidence in the nation’s security architecture,” Onileowo added.

The NYCN further called on state governments, traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations, and citizens to support security agencies through vigilance, intelligence sharing, and collective efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability.

Reaffirming its commitment to nation-building and youth development, the Council pledged its support for all genuine initiatives aimed at improving security and creating an enabling environment for sustainable growth and national prosperity.

The Council concluded by urging the Federal Government to treat insecurity as a matter of utmost priority, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government.
