The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has introduced enhanced security measures for its Call-up and Posting Letters as part of efforts to tackle fraudulent activities and protect prospective Corps Members from exploitation.
The development was disclosed by the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, in Abuja.
Nafiu told the minister that the Scheme had strengthened the security features embedded in Corps Members’ Call-up and Posting Letters following attempts by fraudsters to clone the documents and produce fake letters.
According to him, some unscrupulous individuals had been using cloned documents to deceive prospective employers while also extorting money from unsuspecting Corps Members.
NYSC strengthens Call-up Letter verification
The NYSC Director General explained that the new security measures would make the Call-up and Posting Letters more resistant to manipulation.
He added that employers would be able to verify the authenticity of the documents, making it more difficult for fraudsters to use fake NYSC letters for fraudulent purposes.
Nafiu said the measures formed part of the Scheme’s broader efforts to use technology to improve its operations and strengthen the integrity of the mobilisation process.
Minister commends NYSC digital transformation
The Minister of Education, Alausa, commended the NYSC leadership for embracing technology in its operations, particularly in the registration and deployment of Corps Members.
He noted that the digitisation of the registration process had significantly improved the efficiency of the Scheme despite initial resistance from some members of the public.
“I would like to commend you for all the transformation that you have brought to NYSC and the use of technology to ensure seamless operations and deployment of Corps Members,” Alausa said.
The minister said the adoption of digital solutions had continued to receive commendation from well-meaning Nigerians.
NYSC, Education Ministry to strengthen collaboration
Nafiu also disclosed that a joint committee comprising officials of the NYSC and the Federal Ministry of Education had been established to deepen collaboration between both institutions.
According to him, the committee would help ensure that only qualified and eligible Nigerian graduates participate in the National Youth Service Corps.
The collaboration is expected to further strengthen the integrity of the mobilisation process and prevent ineligible persons from gaining access to the Scheme.
