NYCN Calls for Prayers, Unity, and Charity as Ramadan, Lent Begin

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on Nigerians to embrace prayers, unity, and acts of charity as Muslim and Christian faithful across the country commence the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent, noting that the periods come at a critical time in the nation’s history when collective faith and compassion are most needed.

In a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer, Amb. Benjamin Adekunle Onileowo, the Council stated that the NYCN leadership, under its President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, recognizes the spiritual significance of both observances, particularly in the face of prevailing socio-economic challenges, security concerns, and the aspirations of millions of young Nigerians seeking hope and opportunities.

The Council emphasized that Ramadan and Lent serve as powerful reminders of sacrifice, discipline, compassion, and selflessness, urging Nigerians, especially youths, to use the periods to pray for national peace, economic recovery, good governance, and sustainable development. It also encouraged citizens to demonstrate kindness by supporting vulnerable populations affected by hardship, hunger, and displacement across communities.

According to the statement, the NYCN noted that Nigeria’s diversity remains a source of strength and called for renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and national solidarity beyond ethnic and religious lines. The Council further urged leaders at all levels to act with sincerity, justice, and responsiveness to the needs of the people.

The NYCN expressed optimism that the lessons of patience, humility, and love embedded in the sacred seasons would inspire positive actions capable of strengthening national cohesion and building a more stable and prosperous Nigeria.

The Council prayed for divine mercy, forgiveness, and abundant blessings for all faithful observing the sacred periods and wished Nigerians a peaceful, spiritually fulfilling, and impactful Ramadan and Lenten season.
