NYSC: Enugu Health University Graduates Plan Protest Over Mobilisation Rejection

Graduates of the are planning to shut down academic activities on Wednesday to protest what they describe as the institution’s deliberate failure to mobilise them for the (NYSC).

The protest involves about 400 graduates from the Dental Nursing Department, who were awarded Higher National Diplomas (HND) by the university.

Alleged irregularities in the Dental Nursing program

Graduates claim that the university, formerly known as the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, admitted students into the Dental Nursing course before it was accredited by the (NUC). They allege paying full fees and completing all required courses and housemanship, but still being denied NYSC mobilisation.

One graduate, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said:

“We are victims of fraud… we have had meetings with the vice chancellor and he kept promising us. We started protesting about five years ago, yet the university kept admitting students to the same course.”

Another graduate added that a previously collected contribution intended to regularise their mobilisation “has gone down the drain,” leaving them unable to gain employment due to the absence of NYSC discharge certificates.

University response

The university has stopped admitting students to the Dental Nursing HND and degree programs following earlier protests. Vice Chancellor did not respond to requests for comment on the issue.

The university’s stated mission is “to provide high-quality education, research, and service in allied health sciences with a focus on improving healthcare outputs meant to enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities.”
