The Association for Students Social Welfare (ASSW) has secured official membership and partnership recognition from the Federation of International DroneSoccer Association (FIDA), marking a significant milestone for youth development and tech-driven sports in Nigeria.
The certificates were presented during the maiden Korea-Nigeria Tech Sports Event 2026 held at the Caverton Aviation Training Centre, located within the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The event, organised in collaboration with FIDA Korea and FIDA Nigeria, represents the first international Drone Soccer showcase in the country, combining drone technology with competitive sports to promote innovation and STEM engagement among young people.
ASSW’s delegation was led by its Director of Sports and Recreation, Aarinola Amodu, alongside the Director of Travels and Tourism, Temidayo Ajayi, who received the certificates on behalf of the organisation.
Founder and Executive Director of ASSW, Victor Adetolaju, described the recognition as a turning point for Nigerian students and youths, noting that the partnership opens pathways for international collaboration, innovation, and skills development.
He said Drone Soccer presents a unique blend of technology, teamwork, and strategy, positioning Nigerian youths to benefit from emerging opportunities in STEM and sports innovation.
The Korea-Nigeria Tech Sports Event attracted innovators, drone enthusiasts, and key stakeholders, featuring live demonstrations, networking sessions, and discussions on the role of drone technology in youth empowerment and national development.
FIDA Nigeria, the West African representative of the global body, continues to drive the adoption of drone sports across the region, positioning Nigeria as a growing hub for aeronautical innovation and tech-based competitions.
ASSW said the partnership would strengthen its mission to promote holistic student development through advocacy, innovation, and strategic collaborations. The association plans to introduce Drone Soccer and related programmes in secondary and tertiary institutions nationwide, creating opportunities for students to gain future-ready skills.
The development highlights Nigeria’s expanding footprint in technology-driven sports and underscores the role of youth-focused organisations in advancing innovation and national growth.
