NYSC Seeks Permanent Orientation Camp, Monthly Allowance for Corps Members in Kaduna

NYSC Clamours on LGIs to Leverage Technology in Performing Duties

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna State has appealed to the state government to provide a permanent orientation camp and monthly stipends for corps members serving in the state.

The State Coordinator of the scheme, Efeke Dadaza, made the appeal on Monday during the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course held at the temporary orientation camp located at Government College, Kaduna.

Dadaza commended the Kaduna State Government for its continued support towards the welfare of corps members but noted that the scheme still faces critical infrastructure and logistics challenges.

She specifically requested the provision of a permanent orientation camp, an ambulance, iron bunk beds with mattresses, and support for feeding corps members during orientation exercises.

The NYSC coordinator also urged the state government to consider introducing monthly stipends for corps members throughout their service year, saying such support would boost their morale and encourage greater commitment to national service.

According to her, prospective corps members who began reporting to camp on June 10 had demonstrated discipline and adaptability despite the challenges associated with the temporary camp facility.

She urged the corps members to embrace the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire practical skills that would enhance self-reliance after service.

Declaring the orientation course open, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their academic programmes.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, the governor described the NYSC as one of Nigeria’s most enduring nation-building programmes, noting that it has continued to promote national unity, cultural integration and community development.

He encouraged the corps members to participate actively in all camp activities, including leadership training, civic education and entrepreneurship programmes, while assuring them of the state’s commitment to their welfare, safety and security throughout their service year.
