A fire outbreak on Sunday evening tragically claimed the life of a 30-year-old man, Suraja Muhammad, at a popular mattress store on Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Kano.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident on Monday in a statement by its spokesman, Saminu Abdullahi. The fire, which erupted at around 6:30 p.m., engulfed the Vita Foam store and quickly spread to other parts of the building.
Abdullahi disclosed that an emergency call alerted the fire service to the blaze, prompting the deployment of firefighting teams from multiple stations within the city. “Our teams arrived at the scene shortly after the distress call, but unfortunately, the victim was already being taken to the hospital for medical attention before our arrival,” he said.
The fire reportedly started on the top floor of the building, locally known as Gidan Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Katifa, where it destroyed the mattress store, one shop, and a toilet. The flames then spread to the first floor, consuming three shops and another toilet, while partially affecting the ground floor, which housed four shops and two toilets. A neighboring building also sustained minor damage.
Firefighters worked for hours using five water jets to bring the blaze under control. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are investigating the incident, including the value of the losses incurred.
The tragic event has sparked concerns among residents, who are calling for stricter fire safety measures in commercial areas to prevent further loss of lives and property.

Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
