A female prospective member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) tragically lost her life in a road accident on Wednesday, January 22, 2024, in Ebonyi State.
The accident occurred while the deceased and 12 other prospective corps members were traveling in a 14-seater bus to the NYSC orientation camp in Afikpo. The bus collided with a parked truck in the Amenu community of Okposi.
The deceased succumbed to her injuries, while her fellow corps members and other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries. They were subsequently rescued by locals and security personnel and transported to the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences for medical attention.
Officials Confirm Incident
The Ebonyi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Igwe Henry, confirmed the accident, stating that excessive speed on the part of the bus was likely a contributing factor.
Mrs. Foluke Oladeinde, the State NYSC Coordinator, also acknowledged the incident, expressing her condolences and confirming that she was at the hospital with the injured corps members.
This tragic incident highlights the importance of road safety and underscores the need for continuous efforts to prevent such occurrences.
