Kano Sets N25,000 Fine for Public Littering, Open Defecation

The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Landscaping and Beautification Agency Bill 2025, aimed at promoting cleanliness and enhancing the state’s aesthetics.

The bill imposes a fine of N25,000 on individuals caught littering, urinating, or defecating in public places. It also seeks to prevent indiscriminate dumping of refuse and spitting from moving vehicles.

During plenary, presided over by Speaker Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore, the bill was approved following deliberations in the committee of the whole and a third reading by Deputy Clerk Alhaji Nasiru Magaji.

The newly established agency will oversee the creation of gardens, planting of flowers, and maintenance of public spaces. It will be governed by a board comprising a Chairman and 10 members, including professionals in engineering and beautification.

The House also urged the state government to construct a road linking Kwanar Masalachi, Giddan Kuka, Yan Tipper, and Badawa layout.
