The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the rising student kidnappings in universities, urging the Federal Government to act.
The student body called for urgent action to rescue three female students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, abducted on February 25.
Witnesses reported that the kidnappers emerged from a nearby bush, seizing the students while they returned from a night study session.
NANS National Vice President for Inter-Campus Affairs, Felicia Akinbodunse, described the situation as alarming and demanded immediate intervention by relevant authorities.
She noted that university campuses, once considered safe, have now become easy targets for kidnappers, putting students and parents in fear.
Akinbodunse urged security agencies to intensify rescue efforts, warning that delayed action could embolden criminals to commit further abductions.
She called on the university’s management to strengthen internal security measures, particularly during nighttime, when students engage in studies.
NANS warned that failure to secure the students’ release might result in nationwide protests to demand urgent intervention from authorities.
