The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the attack on National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) members.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the attack occurred on Sunday, February 23, at Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.
NANS members were traveling to Abuja for their annual convention when they were attacked by unidentified youths in the community.
Police Response and Arrest
Ondo Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 4, in Akure.
Odunlami explained that the police received a distress call from one of the students reporting an unprovoked attack.
Officers were swiftly deployed to the scene, restoring calm and ensuring the safety of all affected NANS members.
Intelligence reports revealed that similar attacks on NANS members had occurred previously in the same community.
Using intelligence-led policing strategies, a special squad arrested three suspects linked to the violent incident.
Commitment to Justice and Security
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, assured NANS members of a thorough investigation into the attack.
He reiterated the police command’s commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice without any compromise.
The arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be charged in court once investigations are completed.
Odunlami urged residents to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
NANS Appreciates Police Swift Response
NANS South-West Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Owolewa Taiwo, appreciated the Commissioner of Police for his swift intervention.
He also pledged NANS’ full support in collaborating with law enforcement agencies to combat crime in Ondo State.
