The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has congratulated the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria on the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary, while urging leaders at all levels to prioritize policies that address the pressing challenges facing Nigerian youth.
In a statement issued by the Council’s President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, the apex youth body described the anniversary as both a celebration of resilience and a moment for sober reflection.
According to him: “Nigeria at 65 stands tall as a nation of immense potential, rich diversity, and unbreakable spirit. Yet, for millions of young Nigerians, the realities remain daunting, ranging from unemployment and insecurity to limited access to education, healthcare, and opportunities.
These challenges must not break our resolve but should instead inspire renewed commitment to nation-building and youth empowerment.”
The Council noted that Nigerian youth continue to demonstrate resilience, innovation, and patriotism across diverse sectors including technology, entrepreneurship, governance, sports, and the creative industries. It stressed that their active participation in the country’s development remains critical to achieving sustainable national progress.
The statement further emphasized the need for government at all levels to deepen investments in education, skills development, innovation, and job creation, while also ensuring the meaningful inclusion of young people in governance and decision-making processes.
“As Nigeria celebrates 65 years of independence, the NYCN urges young Nigerians to remain patriotic, peaceful, and committed to the ideals of unity and democracy. The youth must continue to see themselves not only as leaders of tomorrow but as active partners in shaping the Nigeria of today,” the statement added.
The Council, under the leadership of Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with government, civil society, development partners, and the private sector to champion initiatives that promote civic responsibility, foster inclusivity, and secure a prosperous future for Nigeria.
