The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, has restated the scheme’s commitment to corps members’ welfare during a visit to the Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja for the 2025 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course.
Speaking to corps members, Nafiu said his visit followed an advocacy meeting with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who pledged continued support for the scheme. According to him, the Lagos State Government has committed to renovating the temporary camp in Iyana-Ipaja and completing the permanent orientation site in Epe, near Ikorodu.
Describing the three-week orientation programme as a foundation for national service, the DG stressed its role in promoting unity among Nigerians of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. He urged corps members to build lifelong friendships, embrace national integration, and see themselves as future leaders.
Nafiu also encouraged participants to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to achieve self-reliance, while advising them on financial discipline, savings culture, and responsible use of social media.
Earlier, Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, welcomed the DG and commended corps members for their active participation and discipline. She also appreciated the Lagos State Government for its continuous support.
Concluding his visit, the DG reminded corps members to use proper communication channels when making requests and assured them of his availability for engagement throughout their service year.
