The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a set of guidelines on the proper recitation and rendition of the Nigerian National Anthem during official events across the country.
According to the directive, only the first stanza of the anthem is to be sung or recited at official functions, while the third stanza is to serve as the National Prayer, to be rendered at the beginning of events.
The agency further stated that the three stanzas of the anthem should only be sung in full during national ceremonies such as Independence Day celebrations, the swearing-in of a President, Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Democracy Day (June 12), and the inauguration of the National Assembly.
In addition, the National Pledge is to be recited at the end of every official event.
The NOA said the clarification aims to ensure uniformity and adherence to official protocol during public functions, reflecting respect for national symbols and identity.
