Residents of Abuja and surrounding areas can expect full restoration of electricity supply by February 23, according to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
The company confirmed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is working around the clock to repair a vandalized underground transmission line near Millennium Park, which has caused prolonged power outages across several districts.
In an update shared on its official X handle, AEDC stated, “TCN has assured us that restoration efforts are actively ongoing, with engineers working day and night to replace and reconnect the damaged cable. The work is expected to be completed, and power supply fully restored to the Central Area Transmission Substation (AT5) by February 23, 2025.”
The power disruption has affected key areas such as Wuye, Utako, Jabi, Mabushi, Katampe Districts, Life Camp, Wuse Zones 1-7, Wuse 2, Maitama, and parts of the Central Business District. While repair work continues, AEDC announced that load management will be implemented to optimize the available power supply.
The company also revealed that between January 1 and February 11, 2025, a total of 188 locations across the FCT experienced outages due to various technical faults affecting its feeders. Reports indicate that areas including Garki, Kubwa, Banex Plaza, and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) headquarters were among those impacted.
AEDC has urged residents to remain patient while its technical teams work to restore power, stating, “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience as we resolve these issues.”
