Ambassador Musa Abdulazeez Dankano addressing NYSC corps members on illegal migration in Abuja

…….Urges Nigerian Youths to Embrace Skill Acquisition and Legal Migration Pathways

His Excellency, Ambassador Musa Abdulazeez Dankano, Co-Founder of the Pan-African Institute for Global Affairs and Strategy (PAIGAS), has cautioned Nigerian youths and corps members against illegal migration despite the promises of greener pastures abroad.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, Ambassador Abdulazeez delivered a lecture titled “Illegal Migration: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” to members of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

During his address, the ambassador warned that no job offer abroad is worth endangering one’s life. He condemned the dangerous trend of young Nigerians traveling through Niger and Libya to Europe, describing it as “a journey of no return.”

He supported his message with a documentary video exposing the grim realities of irregular migration — from human trafficking and desert deaths to brutal experiences in detention centers.

Ambassador Abdulazeez urged corps members to focus on the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, saying it provides the foundation for self-reliance and financial independence beyond the service year.

“Migration is part of human life,” he said, “but it must be done legally and with proper documentation. Nigerian youths must take pride in their nation and contribute to its growth. Each of us has a role to play in building the Nigeria we desire.”

In his opening remarks, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mr. Samson Ateli, commended PAIGAS for its continuous efforts in curbing the rate of illegal migration among Nigerian youths. He encouraged corps members to listen attentively and volunteer as PAIGAS ambassadors to help spread the message of safe and legal migration.

The event concluded with the selection of Corps Volunteers who will lead further sensitization campaigns within their communities across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
