Canada’s visa rejection rates have sharply increased, with some regions reporting refusal rates as high as 61%.

The surge follows a government crackdown on immigration fraud aimed at protecting the integrity of the system.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller, speaking during Fraud Prevention Month, confirmed that stricter enforcement measures are responsible for the rising refusals.

The government is conducting rigorous reviews to combat fraudulent applications, investigating over 9,000 suspected cases each month.

Authorities are focusing on detecting false information, fake documents, and misuse of Labor Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) in the Express Entry system. Those found guilty of fraud face severe consequences, including visa refusals, entry bans, and fines of up to $1.5 million for immigration representatives involved in illegal activities.

Canada is also addressing misinformation surrounding study permits and asylum applications. Minister Miller urged applicants to rely on licensed immigration consultants and official government resources to avoid scams.

Key reasons for rising visa rejections include fraudulent documentation, dishonest immigration representatives, misrepresentation of travel purpose, insufficient financial proof, and weak ties to home countries.

To avoid falling victim to fraud, applicants are advised to verify consultants’ credentials, use official government channels, and report suspicious activities. Minister Miller emphasized the need for vigilance, warning that fraud undermines genuine applicants and weakens the immigration system’s credibility.
