CJAN Commends NDDC for Bayelsa Corps Lodge, Calls for Nationwide Replication

Corpers’ Journey Advocacy Network commends NDDC for Bayelsa Corps Members Lodge

The Corpers’ Journey Advocacy Network (CJAN) has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for completing and handing over a new NYSC Corps Members Lodge in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

CJAN described the project as a laudable step toward improving the welfare of corps members, noting that decent accommodation remains one of the major challenges faced during national service.

In a statement, the Managing Director of CJAN, Ajayi Taiwo, said the intervention offers a welcome relief, as many corps members across Nigeria still grapple with unsafe housing, high rent, and poor living conditions.

He added that despite the federal government’s review of corps members’ monthly allowance to ₦77,000 in 2024, several still struggle to secure decent accommodation.

Taiwo emphasized that the new lodge in Amassoma would boost morale and enhance the performance of corps members serving in Bayelsa State.

He, however, urged the NDDC, state governments, federal agencies, and private organizations to replicate similar projects across the country to ensure safer housing for corps members.

CJAN also referenced its previous advocacy campaigns on corps members’ welfare, which were featured in Daily Post, Blueprint, and City Mirror.

The commissioning of the Bayelsa lodge featured cultural displays by corps members and was officially declared open by the Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Hon. Target Sekibo, alongside NYSC officials and community leaders.
