Corpers’ Journey Advocacy has condemned the assault on a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, by security operatives in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In a statement released and signed by its Managing Director, Taiwo Ajayi, the organisation described the incident as “a gross violation of the safety and dignity of corps members.”
Ajayi noted that the viral video showing Elohor being flogged and stripped during a raid on a corps lodge was disturbing and unacceptable. He stressed that corps members, who dedicate a year of their lives to national service, deserve protection rather than abuse.
“The assault on Elohor is a reminder of the urgent need for accountability and the protection of all corps members, especially women, from such degrading treatment,” the statement read in part.
Corpers’ Journey Advocacy commended the swift response of the Anambra State Government and the arrest of the operatives involved but urged authorities to ensure that justice is served.
The group further called on the Federal Government, NYSC management, and security agencies to establish stronger measures that guarantee the safety of corps members across the country.
