In a major boost for education workers’ welfare, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the disbursement of ₦596.6 million in car and housing loans to staff of public secondary schools across the state.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Michael Boluwade, the loans are designed to improve staff welfare and motivate teachers to deliver better services.
Breakdown of the Loans
₦381.5 million will go to 382 beneficiaries as car loans.
₦215.1 million will be disbursed to 425 beneficiaries as housing loans.
Boluwade noted that the loans were in line with the 100% increase in loan rates earlier approved by the governor and would be repaid through direct salary deductions. He commended Governor Oyebanji for strengthening the Commission’s Loans Board and ensuring that funds remain available for more beneficiaries.
Governor Oyebanji’s Commitment to Teachers
Governor Oyebanji has consistently emphasized his administration’s focus on workers’ welfare. During the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, he highlighted several initiatives, including:
- Disbursement of ₦400 million housing and vehicle loans to over 1,447 staff.
- Recruitment of 930 subject teachers in public secondary schools.
- Employment of 1,500 primary school teachers and 48 education officers.
- Approval of career progression for primary school teachers to Grade Level 16.
- Ongoing infrastructure upgrades, training programs, and implementation of the minimum wage.
