The Federal Ministry of Education has introduced a new digital registration process for Nigerian students under the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) platform. The move is aimed at centralizing and verifying academic records nationwide — a key requirement for NYSC mobilisation and academic verification.
According to a circular issued on October 13, 2025, all students and graduates preparing for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are required to complete their onboarding via the NERD portal at https://ned.gov.ng/onboarding.
The NERD platform, described as Nigeria’s national flagship for education record digitisation and verification, allows students to upload their academic details, identification, and proof of enrolment directly to a secure government database.
Step-by-Step Guide to NERD Registration
1. Obtain your student ID card, passport photo, and a student status attestation letter from your institution’s registrar.
2. Visit the official onboarding page — https://ned.gov.ng/onboarding.
3. Enter a valid email address and click the verification link sent to your inbox.
4. Select your role as “Student” and choose your institution from the list provided.
5. Fill in your programme, academic details, and personal information.
6. Under the KYC section, upload your:
Passport photograph (JPG/PNG, max 300 KB, white background preferred)
Government-approved ID card (max 350 KB)
Student Status Attestation Letter from your institution
7. Review your information, click “More” to complete the form, and then submit your enrollment.
Once the registration is submitted, the uploaded information will be cross-checked and verified by relevant authorities before graduates can upload their project reports, dissertations, or theses.
The Ministry emphasized that the NERD system is not only for students but will also assist lecturers, institutions, and government agencies in verifying academic records more efficiently.

Officials say the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to digitise Nigeria’s education data and make NYSC verification faster, more transparent, and fully online.
