NLC Rejects Tariff Hike, Threatens Protest

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned the Federal Government against any planned electricity tariff hike, vowing to resist such moves.

Following its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the NLC also condemned the ongoing reclassification of electricity consumers by NERC.

The union accused authorities of using the reclassification process to unfairly move consumers to Band A under the pretext of service improvement.

Additionally, the NLC threatened to shut down telecom operations if companies fail to implement the agreed 35% tariff hike instead of the 50% set by NCC.

Labour leaders insist that arbitrary tariff increases will worsen economic hardship and vowed to mobilize nationwide resistance if the hikes proceed.
