The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Brigadier General OO Nafiu, has reaffirmed that NYSC is compulsory for all Nigerian graduates.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General OO Nafiu, has reaffirmed that NYSC is compulsory for all Nigerian graduates.

This statement was made during his official visit to the 2025 Batch A Stream 2 Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

During the visit, the DG emphasized that participation in the one-year national service remains mandatory, and urged Corps Members to view their service year as a patriotic duty towards national unity and development.

He was received by NYSC Kwara State Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, who gave a briefing on the camp’s progress and appreciated the DG’s efforts in improving Corps members’ welfare. Onifade highlighted key achievements, including:

  • An upward review of Corps Members’ allowances,
  • Accommodation of displaced Lagos Corps Members,
  • Successful implementation of the SAED program.

The event included a colorful cultural performance by the NYSC dance troupe, held in honor of the DG. Addressing the Corps Members, Brigadier General Nafiu commended their discipline and active participation in camp activities. He acknowledged the efforts of NYSC staff and collaborating agencies and urged all participants to commit to the SAED initiative, which equips them with entrepreneurial skills.

In a heartwarming gesture, the DG celebrated birthdays of some Corps Members by cutting a birthday cake with them and donated two cows for their welfare. Alhaji Nura Umar, Director of Special Duties, presented awards to outstanding Corps Members on behalf of the DG.

The visit concluded with prayers for the success of the orientation course. Corps Camp Director Victor Eze (KW/25A/1706) gave a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude on behalf of all Corps Members.
