The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General OO Nafiu, has called on Corps Employers in Cross River State to take responsibility for the welfare and mentorship of Corps Members posted to their establishments.

Delivering the DG’s keynote address at a stakeholder workshop themed “Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employers Partnership for Improved Mutual Benefits”, the Acting Director, South-South Area Office 2, Rivers State, Mr. Philip Enaberue, represented by the Assistant Director, Community Engagement and Entrepreneurship Development Division, Mr. Boniface Udo, emphasized that Corps Employers remain critical partners in the NYSC Scheme.

The event, held at the Calabar Municipal Council Hall, aimed to reinforce the duties of employers in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for Corps Members. Brig. Gen. Nafiu reminded participants that the responsibility of guiding Corps Members during their service year is vital to the Scheme’s success and the overall development of the nation.

In her opening remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Oyenuga Joke, represented by the Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, Mr. Peter Enuma, urged employers to accept and integrate Corps Members into their organizations to foster a sense of belonging and productivity.

The workshop also provided a platform for Corps Employers to share their experiences and raise concerns regarding the conduct of some Corps Members, while also highlighting the need to educate the youth on the true essence of national service.

In response, several employers acknowledged the importance of their role in mentoring Corps Members and pledged to leverage the insights from the workshop to enhance their collaboration with the NYSC.

To round off the event, the NYSC dance troupe delivered a vibrant cultural performance, adding color and excitement to the day’s proceedings.
