The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on Corps Members to accept their postings with a positive attitude and commit themselves to selfless service in their host communities.
Speaking during an address to the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps Members at the Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, General Nafiu emphasized the importance of national unity, cultural tolerance, and discipline among Corps Members.
“Wherever you are posted to, be diligent, respect your host communities, and offer your best for the development of our great nation,” he urged. “Nigeria belongs to all of us, and your service is a vital part of building the future we all desire.”
He cautioned against any form of misconduct, warning that violators of the NYSC bye-laws and Nigeria’s constitution would face appropriate sanctions. He also advised Corps Members against unauthorized and night travels, urging them to always prioritize their safety.
Highlighting the role of cultural integration, the DG encouraged Corps Members to learn and respect the traditions and customs of their host communities, noting that every region of the country is uniquely endowed with rich cultural heritage.
In her briefing to the Director General, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christianah Salmwang, reported that a total of 3,212 Corps Members—1,250 males and 1,960 females—were registered at the Lagos Orientation Camp.
She further disclosed the dislodgement figures to nearby camps due to space constraints: 465 males and 651 females were sent to Kwara State, 502 males and 723 females to Ekiti State, 291 males and 400 females to Ondo State, while 722 males and 921 females were relocated to Osun State.
This brought the total number of Corps Members deployed to Lagos State for the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Exercise to 7,887.
Mrs. Salmwang commended the Corps Members for integrating seamlessly into camp committees and displaying commendable commitment to camp activities.
The DG’s visit and remarks served as a morale boost for the Corps Members, reinforcing the NYSC’s mission of fostering national unity and youth development.
