Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that the state will inject an additional ₦5 billion into the ongoing construction of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in Agbowa, Ikorodu.
Sanwo-Olu made the disclosure while receiving the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the Lagos House. He commended corps members for their contributions to the socio-economic development of the state, describing the NYSC scheme as “a national pride” that should be worn with dignity and honour.
The governor assured that his administration remains committed to the welfare of corps members, noting that the minimum wage for those serving in state government establishments has been reviewed upward in line with prevailing economic realities. He also promised to look into the NYSC’s request for an ambulance and other facilities to aid its operations in Lagos.
Reacting to statistics presented by the DG on the impact of corps members, Sanwo-Olu said it was gratifying that over 44,000 corps members are currently serving in Lagos, reaffirming the state’s position as the nation’s centre of excellence.
Construction of the 10,000-capacity NYSC permanent camp in Agbowa began in January 2025.
