Two University Students Feared Drowned in Ekiti Dam

What began as an ordinary academic outing has turned into a harrowing ordeal as two promising young students of Ekiti State University (EKSU) are feared drowned in the serene but perilous waters of the Ikun dam.

Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, both Theatre Arts undergraduates, joined their peers and supervisor on a research trip to Igogo-Ekiti in Ero LCDA. The trip was meant to be a day of academic exploration and bonding.

But tragedy struck after the group concluded their activities and began their journey back. Oluwatobiloba and Oladimeji, however, chose to stay back, lured by the allure of the famous Ikun dam. What seemed like an innocent sightseeing adventure has since spiraled into a nightmare.

The community has been thrown into despair as the two students have not been seen since that fateful day. Local residents suspect they may have drowned, a grim possibility that has left families and friends clinging to hope amid the uncertainty.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, acknowledged the students’ disappearance but emphasized that no conclusion could be drawn yet. “We cannot confirm if they drowned. The police rescue team, alongside local fishermen, has been tirelessly searching the dam and its surroundings,” he said.

This tragic incident has left the EKSU community in shock. Friends describe Oluwatobiloba and Oladimeji as vibrant and full of potential, with dreams yet to be fulfilled. Now, those dreams hang in the balance as rescue efforts continue.

For many, the incident is a somber reminder of the dangers lurking in such natural attractions. It also highlights the importance of safety measures and awareness, particularly for young adventurers drawn to places like the Ikun dam.

As the search intensifies, the thoughts and prayers of an entire community remain with the missing students and their families, hoping against all odds for a miracle.
