The Anambra State Government has shut down a notorious brothel in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, as part of a targeted effort to combat crime and exploitation.

The operation, carried out by the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, uncovered a haven for underage sex workers, drug dealers, and armed robbers.

At least 10 women, including minors, were rescued during the raid, shedding light on the extent of human exploitation in the area.

Celestine Anere, Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, revealed that the raid followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance. “The illegal activities at this brothel supported various crimes, including drug trafficking and underage sex work,” Anere said.

Describing the brothel as a hub for criminals, Anere stressed that its operations endangered the safety of the local community. “This establishment facilitated crimes and exploited young girls.

We will not tolerate such acts and are committed to arresting and prosecuting those responsible,” he said.

The rescued victims are now under the care of the state government, which has pledged to provide them with support and rehabilitation. “We are dedicated to ensuring these girls regain their dignity and are protected from further harm,” Anere assured.

The government has also vowed to intensify its efforts to crack down on criminal activities across the state. “This is just the beginning,” Anere warned. “Anambra will not be a safe haven for criminals.”

This operation marks a significant step in the state’s mission to protect vulnerable individuals and eradicate exploitation.
