A 40-year-old man, Uchenna Okpara, has confessed to stabbing his in-law, Uchenna Unakalamba, to death in Ubomiri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident, which occurred on January 16, 2025, followed a dispute between their children.
According to the Imo State Police Command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the argument escalated, leading Okpara to attack Unakalamba with a broken bottle. The confrontation turned fatal, and Okpara reportedly fled the scene.
However, following a distress call, operatives from the anti-kidnapping unit apprehended Okpara and recovered the weapon used in the attack.
In his statement to the police, Okpara expressed remorse for his actions but explained that the altercation between their children had become overwhelming, prompting him to react violently. Okpara remains in custody as investigations continue into the matter.
The corpse of Unakalamba has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while police officials have assured that the suspect will face prosecution once the investigation is concluded.
In a related development, the Imo State Police also arrested Ozioma Dike and dismantled a notorious kidnap syndicate operating in Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area. Further investigations are underway.
