The Sokoto State government has announced plans to establish more Ramadan feeding centres to support the less privileged ahead of the 2025 fasting period.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu made the disclosure over the weekend while commissioning the remodeled Ruggar Wauru Jumu’at Mosque in the state.
He assured that preparations for the feeding programme were in full swing, emphasizing that more centres would be created in underserved areas to benefit the needy and vulnerable.
“We are also working to improve the quality of food served in these centres,” Aliyu added.
Beyond feeding initiatives, the governor highlighted his administration’s efforts in renovating and constructing several mosques and Islamiyya schools. He listed multiple Jumu’at mosques that have been completed, with several others still under renovation.
Aliyu reaffirmed his commitment to promoting religious affairs in Sokoto, a predominantly Muslim state, adding that his government provides monthly maintenance funds of N300,000 to N500,000 for 90 Jumu’at mosques.
He also praised the reactivated Hisbah Board for its role in tackling social vices, assuring continued state support while allowing it to operate independently.
