The Association for Students’ Social Welfare (ASSW) Nigeria has announced a strategic partnership with SDSN Youth Nigeria to co-host the 2026 Conference of Youth on Environment and Climate (COYEC).
The announcement, made in Abuja on March 29, underscores efforts to strengthen youth participation in climate action, innovation, and sustainable development across Nigeria.
ASSW Nigeria said the collaboration would combine its experience in student advocacy and welfare initiatives with SDSN Youth Nigeria’s expertise in youth-led environmental sustainability programmes.
The conference is scheduled to hold from June 3 to 4, 2026, in Abuja and will focus on the theme, “Future of Work, Technology, and Sustainability in a Changing Environment.”
Founder and Executive Director of ASSW Nigeria, Victor Adetolaju, described the partnership as a significant step toward amplifying student voices in climate and development discussions.
He said COYEC 2026 would provide a platform for engagement among key stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organisations, private sector players, and academic institutions.
According to him, the conference is designed to equip young people with the tools, networks, and solutions needed to address emerging environmental and socio-economic challenges.
Stakeholders note that youth-led climate platforms are increasingly shaping policy conversations, fostering innovation, and driving grassroots impact, particularly in developing economies.
Organisers added that COYEC 2026 aims to deliver one of the most inclusive youth-focused climate conferences in Nigeria, with a focus on actionable outcomes and long-term impact.
ASSW Nigeria, founded in 2017 and headquartered in Abuja, focuses on promoting student welfare, entrepreneurship, and holistic development through advocacy, partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives.
