Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has called on newly deployed corps members in Anambra State to embrace patriotism, discipline, and national unity as they begin their service year.
The charge was delivered during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II members of the National Youth Service Corps at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp.
Represented by Mr. Ifeatu Emodi, the governor assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their welfare and security throughout their service year.
2,300 Corps Members Inducted
A total of 2,300 prospective corps members were formally inducted into national service, comprising 1,080 males and 1,220 females. They took the oath of allegiance administered on behalf of the Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice O. M. Anyachebelu.
Focus on Discipline and Skill Development
The State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, said the three-week orientation programme is designed to build discipline, teamwork, and self-reliance among participants.
She noted that activities such as drills, physical training, sporting competitions, and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) scheme will equip corps members with practical skills for life after service.
Government Reaffirms Support
Also speaking, the Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, represented by Mr. Martin Ezeilo, reiterated the board’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for effective service delivery.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including the traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Joel Maduadichie Egwuonwu, alongside heads of security and paramilitary agencies.
Orientation Activities Begin
Highlights of the ceremony included the administration of the oath of allegiance and a tug-of-war contest among corps members. The governor’s representative was earlier received with a quarter guard of honour.
