Davido Knocks Edo Governor Over Adeleke Remarks

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appeared to respond to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo following the governor’s remarks mocking Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Davido reacted on Friday by sharing what was claimed to be Governor Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result on his Instagram Stories. Although the singer did not include a caption, the post was widely interpreted as a subtle response to the governor’s criticism of his uncle.

The exchange comes amid heightened political campaigns ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, where Governor Adeleke is seeking re-election.

Speaking at a campaign rally for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), Governor Okpebholo criticised Adeleke’s leadership style, mocking his well-known love for dancing.

According to the Edo governor, the Osun governor spends too much time dancing instead of focusing on governance.

“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo said during the rally.

The campaign event was attended by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other APC stakeholders.

Okpebholo also urged voters to collect money from political parties but cast their votes for the APC candidate during the forthcoming governorship election.

Davido has remained one of Governor Adeleke’s most vocal supporters throughout the campaign season, participating in rallies and repeatedly calling for a peaceful, free and fair election in Osun State.
