The Lagos State Government has sworn in 3,281 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course.
The three-week orientation programme officially commenced at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, congratulated the corps members on their mobilisation for national service.
The governor described the NYSC scheme as an important platform for promoting national unity, integration and peaceful coexistence among young Nigerians.
Sanwo-Olu urges corps members to embrace skills training
Sanwo-Olu urged the corps members to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire practical skills that could promote self-reliance, wealth creation and financial independence.
He also encouraged them to build positive relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds, obey camp regulations and uphold conduct that would bring honour to their families, institutions and the NYSC.
The governor reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for corps members to contribute to the state’s socio-economic development.
NYSC Coordinator highlights orientation programme
The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, described the orientation course as an important foundation for a successful service year.
She said the programme includes military drills, physical fitness exercises, lectures, SAED training, sporting activities and other engagements designed to promote discipline, leadership, patriotism and self-reliance.
Salmwang urged the corps members to participate actively in camp activities and use the experience to develop values that would contribute to national development.
Corps members warned about travel safety
The NYSC coordinator also advised the corps members to prioritise their safety throughout the service year.
She urged them to obtain official approval before embarking on journeys, avoid night travel, use authorised motor parks and seek assistance from recognised security formations if stranded while travelling.
Justice Alogba administers Oath of Allegiance
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by the NYSC Governing Board Chairman, government officials, security chiefs, NYSC officials and representatives of various collaborating agencies.
Representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre and the NYSC South-West Area Office were also present.
The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the Oath of Allegiance by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, represented by Justice A.M. Lawal.
The 3,281 corps members will now proceed with the three-week orientation programme designed to prepare them for the various responsibilities and challenges of the national service year.
