Osun NYSC Coordinator Warns Corps Members Against Unauthorized Travel

The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun State, Agbor Ndoma Obim, has cautioned corps members that their employers lack the authority to grant them travel permission.

Speaking during a debriefing session at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede on Monday, Agbor emphasized the importance of discipline, adherence to NYSC regulations, and personal responsibility throughout the service year.

“Employers have no right to give you permission to travel,” he stated. “Ensure you follow due process and do not exceed the approved time for your leave. In case of an emergency, notify your Local Government Inspector.”

He commended corps members for their conduct during the orientation course and assured them that their welfare remains a top priority for the NYSC.

Agbor reminded corps members that their postings were determined based on their academic disciplines and employer needs. He urged them to adapt to their new environments and make meaningful contributions at their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA).

Warning against insubordination, he stated that employers had the right to query corps members and report any cases of misconduct to the NYSC. “This process is designed to instill discipline and leadership skills in you,” he explained.

On security, Agbor advised corps members to remain vigilant and apply the safety measures learned during orientation. “Security is everyone’s business. Move in pairs, avoid night parties, and stay away from activities that could put you at risk. Remember your parents’ sacrifices and investments in you,” he cautioned.

He also warned against posting NYSC-related content on social media without authorization, stressing that the misuse of the NYSC uniform online would not be tolerated. “Uphold the integrity of the Scheme and avoid actions that may bring it into disrepute,” he stated.

The State Coordinator reminded corps members of the compulsory monthly biometric clearance, which must be completed between the 1st and 10th of each month. He warned that failure to comply could lead to delayed stipends.

Encouraging active participation in the Community Development Service (CDS) programme, he advised corps members to leave a positive impact on their host communities. “You are not expected to fund projects from your allowances. Mobilize resources from the community and leave a lasting footprint,” he encouraged.

Agbor urged corps members to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously, highlighting its role in financial independence. “SAED is personal; there is no designated day for it. Make time after CDS or on weekends to engage in it,” he said, while warning against using SAED as an excuse for truancy at PPAs.

The debriefing session served as a final orientation before corps members resumed their respective assignments across the state.
