Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has issued a strict ban on loud preaching in public spaces, particularly markets, citing noise pollution concerns.
The governor announced that violators would face a ₦500,000 fine.
In a viral video circulating online, Soludo confronted a roadside preacher in a market, warning him against disturbing traders. He advised preachers to conduct their sermons in churches or rent open spaces where willing listeners could attend.
“We have banned loudspeakers in markets due to noise pollution, which affects people’s eardrums. You cannot force people to listen to your preaching,” Soludo stated, emphasizing the government’s crackdown on unauthorized religious activities in public spaces.
The enforcement of this directive signals the state’s commitment to reducing environmental noise and ensuring a more conducive business atmosphere in markets.
