Tears flowed in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, as three siblings—Chikaima Ejezie (9), Chimziterem Ejezie (8), and Chimdirim Ejezie (5)—were laid to rest on Saturday after their brutal murder.
The tragic incident occurred on February 1, 2025, in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, when unknown assailants attacked their home while their mother was away for an examination. The killers placed the children’s bodies inside a freezer before fleeing, leaving the apartment suspiciously open.
A solemn burial mass was held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Umueze Uga, officiated by Cardinal Ebere Okpalaeke, Archbishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, with over 30 priests in attendance. The service drew local government officials, traditional rulers, and a grieving community.
In his sermon, Cardinal Okpalaeke condemned the gruesome killings, likening them to the biblical story of Cain and Abel. He warned that those responsible would face divine retribution, saying, “Anyone involved in this crime will not know peace. A curse is upon them.”
He urged criminals to repent, warning that violence breeds more violence. The clergyman described the murdered children as martyrs and a symbol of rising insecurity in Nigeria.
Following the mass, emotions ran high as relatives, friends, schoolmates, and mourners gathered to bid farewell. The sorrowful atmosphere reflected the community’s struggle to process the shocking tragedy.
Their grieving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Udochukwu Ejezie, called the loss their worst nightmare, thanking the community for its support. They also appreciated the Anambra State Government and police for their efforts and urged authorities to ensure justice is served by bringing the killers to book.
