Tinubu Advocates Inclusion of NOUN Graduates in NYSC

Tinubu has instructed the Ministry of Education to incorporate graduates of the National Open University into the National Youth Service Corps scheme. He has also resolved the longstanding issue of NOUN Law graduates’ admission to Law School for equal opportunities.

He announced this during his speech at NOUN’s 13th convocation ceremony in Abuja. Previously, NOUN graduates were told by the former vice chancellor, Abdallah Adamu, that they would soon be eligible for NYSC and Law School.

Adamu explained that NOUN’s part-time nature, as defined in the Act establishing the university, prevented graduates from participating in NYSC.

A Federal High Court later dismissed a suit by NOUN Law graduates seeking admission to the Nigerian Law School.

Tinubu’s directive, delivered by the Deputy Executive Secretary of NUC, Biodun Saliu, allows NOUN graduates to participate in NYSC and enroll in Law School, ensuring equal opportunities.

He emphasized the importance of this decision in light of Nigeria’s changing demographics.

Tinubu praised NOUN’s role in shaping Nigeria’s educational landscape through Open and Distance Learning (ODL).

He committed to improving ODL to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, noting its significance in expanding access to higher education.
