How a Father Stole Goat for Naming Ceremony in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two suspects, Akintoye Waris and Ajayi Yusuf, for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat valued at N200,000 to celebrate a child’s naming ceremony.
The spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, disclosed on Saturday that the suspects were arrested on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of Ogun State. According to Odutola, the suspects reportedly invaded a local farm on December 25, 2024, when the farm owner, identified as Mark, had taken other livestock out for grazing.
Upon returning to the farm and discovering one of the goats missing, the owner raised an alarm, prompting a community-wide search. Villagers reported seeing the suspects transporting the goat on a motorcycle heading toward Olodo town. Acting on this tip, detectives were dispatched, leading to their arrest in the early hours of January 2.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the theft, revealing that they stole the goat, transported it, and slaughtered it two days later on December 27, 2024. The meat was allegedly used to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Akintoye Waris’s daughter, which took place in Olodo.
“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch,” Odutola stated. She assured residents that the culprits would face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges with theft and community security in the area. The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice is served while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
