NYSC: Corps Members Advised Against Joining August 1 Protest
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a caution to corps members regarding participation in the upcoming nationwide protest.
Over the past week, there has been significant media discussion about the planned anti-inflation protest set to occur in Nigeria from August 1 to August 10.
The protest, themed “End Bad Governance in Nigeria,” has brought back memories of the 2020 anti-police brutality protests, which resulted in fatalities, arson, and the destruction of mass transit buses.
In a statement released on Saturday, Yetunde Baderinwa, the NYSC Lagos coordinator, emphasized that corps members should focus on promoting national unity.
The NYSC reiterated its policy that prohibits corps members from participating in protests.
“Adherence to this policy is mandatory,” the NYSC stated.
The statement further warned that corps members who violate this policy “will face serious disciplinary actions” in accordance with NYSC regulations.
“To align with NYSC’s objective of fostering national unity, it is crucial to remind all corps members to strictly adhere to the principles of promoting harmony and cohesion within our country,” the statement read.
“It is against NYSC policy for any corps member to participate in protests, whether physically or online. Engaging in such activities contradicts our mission to promote national unity.”
