Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has announced plans to subsidize petrol costs for farmers in communities impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Farmers will now pay N600 per litre instead of the market price of N1,000 to N1,200 in Maiduguri.

Governor Zulum made this announcement on Friday during the distribution of farm inputs to over 5,000 displaced farmers in Bama town. He stated that the subsidy aims to reduce the financial burdens on farmers who face rising fuel costs, particularly for irrigation farming.

To support the farmers, the governor distributed 2,000 bags of blended NPK fertilizer, 1,000 water pumps, 620 gasoline pumps, 380 solar water pumps, 1,000 sprayers, 800 rolls of 2-inch flexible hoses, and 1,000 litres of pesticides, among other farming materials.

Governor Zulum expressed appreciation for federal government support in reconstructing and resettling insurgency-affected communities, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to rebuilding livelihoods in the region.
