WAEC Begins Registration for January-February 2025 WASSCE Resit Exams
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a new resit examination program, offering candidates the opportunity to retake their West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) papers as early as January and February 2025.
The announcement was made by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana on Sunday.
According to Kapi, the program, known as WASSCE PC1, is designed to allow students to improve their grades within a shorter timeframe. “Students who check their WAEC results and realize they need to retake one or two subjects can register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés by 8th January,” Kapi explained.
The resit exams are scheduled to hold from 24th January to 15th February 2025.

To aid candidates in preparation, WAEC will expedite the release of chief examiners’ reports, providing valuable insights into areas where students typically struggle and offering guidance on effective study techniques and exam strategies.
Kapi highlighted that the program has been widely advertised through banners, WAEC’s website, and the results checker platform to ensure that both students and parents are well-informed. He also clarified that students whose results were canceled may participate in the WASSCE PC1 exams, provided they are not under long-term bans for malpractice.
Due to the anticipated low number of participants, the exams will be held only in regional capitals. Candidates are encouraged to complete their registration by 8th January 2025 to take advantage of this opportunity.
WAEC hopes this initiative will enable candidates to quickly improve their grades and meet the qualifications for the next admission cycle, helping to prevent delays in their academic pursuits.
